Yvonne Ann Massicot Aiavolasiti Obituary

Yvonne Ann Massicot Aiavolasiti of Nacogdoches, Texas, was taken to Heaven on March 30, 2022 at the age of 94. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and will be missed by family, friends, and her community.

Yvonne was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 24, 1927 to parents Sidney John Massicot and Yvonne Marie Soules Massicot. As a child, she attended school in Oklahoma City, OK; Charlotte, NC; and Lafayette, LA in addition to New Orleans. Yvonne Ann, as she was known in New Orleans to family and friends, was a member of the 1946 graduating class of McDonogh 35 High School New Orleans.

Yvonne worked for Taylor Instruments in Baton Rouge in the 60s before moving to Texas to work as an Administrative Assistant in the oil industry in Dallas and Houston. She moved to Nacogdoches in 1985 and opened Telephone Secretary, a very successful 24-hour answering service, which served the Nacogdoches community for 16 years until she sold the business and retired in June 2001.

Yvonne's retirement years were very active as she pursued her interests in traveling, gardening, and community involvement.  In addition to annual trips to Virginia to visit her daughter and grandchildren, she took cruises to Alaska and to Mexico, traveled internationally to the UK and Italy and traveled to many destinations within the US. Yvonne became a Master Gardener and joined Flora Garden Club, and always grew the most beautiful orchids in her sunroom. She was a member of Nacogdoches Newcomers and Friends for over 20 years and served on the board for several years. She also enjoyed playing and hosting popular games such as Chicken Foot, Mexican Train, Mahjong, and Canasta. Yvonne was a political, community, and church volunteer. She was a very active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years as a volunteer at the Annual Multicultural Festival, The Food Bank, Ladies Guild and the Third Age group. She was also a volunteer for Lamp-Lite Theatre.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her son Keith Dennis Aiavolasiti of Nacogdoches, a sister Phyllis Marie Massicot Nelson, her parents Sidney John Massicot and Yvonne Marie Soules Massicot, a niece Tara Nelson Gauthier, and both maternal and paternal grandparents, all of New Orleans. She is survived by her daughter Leslie Aiavolasiti Rodgers (John), granddaughter Shannon Alyssa Rodgers, grandson Jason Keith Rodgers (Laurel), great granddaughters Ivy and Kinzleigh and great grandsons Trenton and Wyatt all of Virginia.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 11 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nacogdoches with a reception immediately following at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Margil Center. A graveside ceremony will follow at 3:00 pm at Oak Grove Cemetery.
