Wilton Wayne Anthony was born April 29, 1940. He passed from this life into the presence of The Lord, September 16, 2021, at the age of 81 years and four months.
Wayne was born to Joseph and Ada Anthony as one of five brothers and two sisters in the Blackjack Community of Nacogdoches County. A sister now survives him, Mrs. Gene Butler of Chireno.
Wayne and Patricia Ann Harvey were married in the Blackjack Community and resided there until 1981 when they moved to Nacogdoches It was there that they established the Western Hills subdivision and convenience store in which they worked for several years and still reside there.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Patricia Anthony; sons, Hollis Wayne Anthony of Throckmorton, and daughter Teresa Annette Barton and husband, Lane of Garrison; grandchildren, Reece Anthony and wife, Amy of Throckmorton, Jordan Anthony and Samantha Anthony of Stephenville, Bradley Barton and wife, Annette of Teneha and Cameron Barton and wife, Brittanie of Garrison, Texas; great-grandchildren, Rhett and Royce Anthony of Throckmorton, Blake, Brigham, and Bryce Barton of Teneha and Beau and Kyle Barton of Garrison.
Wayne and Pat established a relationship with Jesus at a young age and made sure to pass that knowledge to their own children and grandchildren, raising them in Christian homes. Their children and grandchildren are very grateful for that. Wayne and Pat served their local church in Blackjack and Nacogdoches for many years; Wayne was a deacon and Pat was a teacher.
Wayne left school after 6th grade to work fulltime which he continued to do for the rest of his life. He started as a pulpwood hauler and then worked as a feed truck driver, a mechanic, a carpenter and even a licensed barber. Wayne enjoyed building and construction – really anything working with his hands. He formed his own company, building homes, shops, barns, poultry houses, and anything that delt with reconstruction and remodeling jobs. Wayne took great pride in doing a job right and created a wonderful reputation for producing quality work. Wayne would often help friends and neighbors with projects out of the goodness of his heart and because he enjoyed the work.
When their grandchildren were born, Wayne and Pat became “Poppa” and “Grandmother”. They were amazing and attentive grandparents. Many haircuts took place, advice was given, and a shoulder to lean on was always available. Poppa would show up, ready to lend a hand, without being asked if there was something that needed to be done.
The Lord has been gracious to Wayne in his life – through illness and death – leaving his family grateful for every moment they shared. Poppa will be missed by all who had the honor of loving and knowing him.
