Wayne Boring Obituary

Dr. Wayne Clark Boring, Sr., 82, of Nacogdoches, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022.  He was born on November 26, 1939 in New Florence, PA to Charles Clark Boring and Emma Fisher Boring.  Private family services will be held on Thursday, June 30.

Wayne graduated from Indiana State College in Indiana, PA with a Degree in Chemistry.  He later attended Kansas University where he attained his PhD in Analytical Chemistry.  On March 11, 1966, he married Shirley McClain and was a devoted husband to her for 56 years.  Together, they raised their 3 sons – Wayne Jr, Brad, and Richard – and were beyond proud of the men they came to be.  Wayne loved spending time with his family.  They took many summer trips back to Pennsylvania to visit family and to Galveston for weekend getaways.  He coached the boys in baseball during their younger years and continued to be their biggest fan and supporter in all their endeavors.  He made sure to instill in his sons the importance of family and the love of Christ.  He taught them by example and was a hero in their eyes.

In August of 1968, Wayne moved to Nacogdoches and taught chemistry at Stephen F. Austin State University for 42 years.  He served as chairman of the chemistry department for a portion of his tenure there.  Wayne had a great passion for his students, of whom he built strong connections and lasting relationships with.  He made them feel welcome and was always available for counsel when they needed him.

Wayne was very active in the church throughout his life, serving as a deacon at Fredonia Hill Baptist Church and Bethel Baptist Church.  Most recently, he was a member of Grace Bible Church.  His devotion to Christ provided the opportunity for him to be a great influence on his students away from campus.  Wayne spent many evenings and weekends making a significant impact in the lives of many college students at the university as well as in the church.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Shirley McClain Boring of Nacogdoches; sons, Wayne Boring & wife, Stacey of League City, Brad Boring & wife, Catherine of Round Rock and Richard Boring & wife, Blake of McKinney; grandchildren, Madilyn, Sophia, Ava, Richard, Michael, Avery, Hudson and McClain; sisters, Janet Henderson & husband, Lee of New Florence, PA and Sue Cottrel of East Petersburg, PA.
