Vert Poskey Obituary

Funeral services for Vert Joseph Poskey will be held at 12:00pm on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with graveside service and military honors to follow at Moral Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5:00pm–7:00pm on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at Laird Funeral Home.

Vert Joseph Poskey, age 98, of the Moral Community, Nacogdoches County, Texas passed away  in his home surrounded by loving family on November 25, 2022.  He was born on October 18, 1924 to George and Mary (Petra) Montes Poskey.

Vert faithfully attended Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (Moral) and was a pillar in the Moral Community.  

Vert proudly served his country in the 13th Army Air Corps during World War II. Vert was stationed in the Solomon Islands, South Pacific.

Vert and Bobbie Poskey married in 1946, shortly after Vert’s return home from World War II. Vert and Bobbie were married 73 years until her passing in 2020.

Vert had a strong work ethic and taught his three sons the importance of hard work. In 1986, Vert retired from Southland Paper, later known as International Paper, in Lufkin, TX after 35 years of employment.

Most of all, Vert enjoyed sitting on the patio with his family, polishing his cars, gardening, and manicuring his lawn. Vert and Bobbie’s 3 sons, 10 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren were Paw-Paw and Maw-Maw’s pride and joy.

Vert is survived by son, David and wife, Abbie of Lindale, TX; son, Dennis and wife, Valori of Moral, TX; son, Danny and wife, AnnaMarie of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren David Todd and wife, Leia of Coppell, TX; Samantha Poskey of Lindale, TX; Aaron and wife, Crystal of Ft. Worth, TX; Tifani Shuttlesworth and husband, Brian of Bullard, TX; Emily Poskey Ballard of Moral, TX; Austin and wife, Reba of Dumfries, VA; Miranda Bell and husband, Brandon of Colorado Springs, CO; Elizabeth, Caleb, and Savanna Joy Poskey of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren Brooke and Allison Poskey, Gracie Ballard, Hudson and Hadley Shuttlesworth, Anastasia and Grayson Poskey, and Westin Bell; sisters, Mary Agnes (Billie) Manchack of Ft. Worth, TX, Mary Catherine Martines of Ft. Worth, TX, Rachel Jean Garcia and husband Albert of Lewisville, TX; niece, Alice Dillon and husband Tommy of Nacogdoches, TX; and numerous other nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Montes Poskey; wife, Bobbie Marie Poskey; sisters, Georgia Ann Lazerine and Doris Mae Clevinger; and numerous other family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be David Todd Poskey, Aaron Poskey, Austin Poskey, Caleb Poskey, Sterling Dillon, Brian Shuttlesworth and Hudson Shuttlesworth.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Hospice in the Pines, Tiffany Young, and numerous other nurses and caretakers.
