Tommy Chandler

Mr. Tommy Chandler, 76, of Nacogdoches, Texas passed away on December 1, 2023 in Nacogdoches. He was born on July 22, 1947 in Center, Texas.

On July 22, 1947, in Center, Texas, Tommy was born to Ivy Chandler and Jewell Hooper Chandler. He graduated from Center High School and married Nelda, his “loving bride” of 56 years, on October 20, 1967. They were blessed with two children: Gina and Michael. Tommy worked as a poultry and cattle farmer for over thirty years. In 2017, he retired from the City of Nacogdoches as an equipment operator with twelve years of service.  Tommy was a cherished member of the Shady Grove community and Shady Grove Baptist Church. He gave his life to Christ in 1988 which Michael remembers his mama sharing while he was on third base and in the middle of his high school baseball game. Tommy’s favorite past times were riding his “bride” on the Mule around their property to enjoy the wildlife, watching his grandsons’ sporting events, improving the property with his Bobcat, visiting on the porch with a cup of coffee, and talking about anything and everything.  He loved his church and spent many hours working and serving his church family and community.  Tommy loved to laugh and loved to make others laugh.

Tommy is survived by his wife, Nelda Jones Chandler; Daughter: Gina Chandler of League City; Son: Michael Chandler and Daughter-in-law: Angela Chandler; Grandsons: Matthew and Daniel Chandler of Nacogdoches; Siblings: Mary Windham of Center, James Chandler of Center, Joy Tarver of Nacogdoches, and Brooksie Bates of Nacogdoches. Other survivors include many nieces, nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents Ivy and Jewell Chandler; Brothers: Charles Chandler and Troy Chandler.

Visitation will be held at Shady Grove Baptist Church: 2548 FM-2112 Nacogdoches, Texas on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, from 10:00am-11:00am. Memorial Service from 11:00am-12:00pm. Brandon Jones, pastor and nephew will officiate.
