Susie Maytrait (Cureton) Dempsey

A graveside service for Susie Maytrait Dempsey will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Swift Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Laird Funeral Home.

Susie Maytrait Cureton Dempsey was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the age of 94.

Maytrait was born to Giles and Susie Chalker Cureton on December 4, 1930, in Swift, Nacogdoches County. As a child, she was the baby of 9 children. She married AD Dempsey and provided a loving home for their children. In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother and grandmother, who was lovingly referred to as “Nanny” or “Grandmother”, she loved taking care of others and sharing her love for Jesus, quilting, reading, and puzzling. Throughout her life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she lived out and shared with those around her.

Maytrait is survived by her children, Gregory Dempsey, Aubrey Dempsey, Nora Susan Hughes, and Carolyn Yates; over 20 grandchildren; over 42 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her love leaves a legacy.

Maytrait is welcomed by her parents; husband, AD Dempsey; daughters, Cindy Jones and Rejeana Stewart; and many other family members in Heaven.

We rejoice in the promise of eternal life, and that she is now at peace in the arms of our Savior.
