Susan Washburn

Susan, 68, of Nacogdoches, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021 in Nacogdoches,

A memorial service will be held at Harvest Point Baptist Church Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:30 AM.

Susan was born in Buffalo, New York on December 24, 1952 to Walter and Katherine Zittel.  She graduated Memorial High School in Houston and went on to continue her education at Stephen F. Austin State University. It was here that she achieved her Bachelors and Masters degree while qualifying for the Honors Program.

Susan met her husband, Curt, of almost 49 years in Austin, Texas at the University of Texas. On November 3, 1972, Susan and Curt were married in Austin and began their life together. The couple had three beautiful children who in turn blessed them with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family was of the utmost importance to Susan. She relished every moment with her children and grandchildren who called her “Granny”. Susan was also an avid reader and enjoyed crafting, cooking, traveling, and playing trivia games in her spare time.

Susan is survived by her loving husband, Curt Washburn; children, Kirsten Phillips, Kimberly Daniels, and Clayton Washburn; grandchildren, Tyeson Session, Meagan Session, Justin Phillips, Kaylie Daniels, Chloe Daniels, Buddy Newman, Zackery Newman, and Valery Newman; great-grandchildren, Athena Delrie and Zephaniah Delrie; and sister, Darcy Budde and husband, Rich.

Susan is preceded in death by her father, Walter Zittel; and mother, Katherine Brenneman.

In lieu of flowers, Susan would have wanted a donation to be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research.
