Steve Tindall Obituary

Steve was born and raised in Nacogdoches County, spending most of his time in the rural area of Melrose.  He graduated from Nacogdoches High School as a proud member of the Dragon Football Team.  After graduation, he attended Stephen F. Austin State University.  Steve honorably served our country in the United States Army, stationed at both Ft. Hood and Ft. Polk.  During his tenure as a young soldier at Ft. Hood, a beautiful lady caught his eye.  After meeting Nancy Nesbitt, the two fell in love and on December 12, 1958, they eloped to begin their love story.  Steve enjoyed farm living, raising cattle and the occasional game of 42.  The birth of their two daughters became what defined the rest of his and Nancy’s lives.  Steve loved his sons-in-law and the lives they brought to his daughters.  The blessing of grandchildren and the title of “Papa” brought him pure joy.  Steve and Nancy both shared their love of Christ with the entire family and was fortunate enough to know their children and grandchildren loved and trusted in their Lord.  He was a member of First Baptist Church and especially active in Sunday School.  In 2019, Steve’s life changed drastically when he had to say goodbye to his beloved Nancy.  However, he carried on with what they both believed so fervently in….Jesus and family.

Steve is survived by his daughters, Ann Vawter & husband, Mike and Janet Porter & husband, Joel; grandchildren, Juli Rose, Steve Vawter and Josie Porter; great grandchildren, Brynli Vawter, Layni Vawter and Landon Rose; and sister, Maureen Billingsly.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Buck Tindall, Hulon Tindall and John Tindall and sister, Charlene King.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to the caregivers and special friends and neighbors who were amazingly devoted to Steve as well as the family.  Brenda Shepherd, Molly Williams and Cindy & Steve Lee were literally their “Angels on earth”.
