Steve Michelle Obituary

Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on June 6th, at Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Michelle passed away on June 2, 2023, in Nacogdoches. He was born on July 27, 1934, in Nacogdoches.

Steve was born and raised in Nacogdoches.  He played football during his high school years, graduated, and went to work at the drive-in movie theater to help pay for his sister’s twirling activities.  This was a simple act that proved how much family meant to him.  He always knew that if he took care of his family, they would appreciate it more than anyone else.  His family was blessed to be the direct descendants of Vicente MIcheli who was the first Italian settler to come to Texas and become a landowner and Steve was very proud of this.  He soon began working at the auto parts store, which proved to be the job he loved.  He met and married Betty Lou Husband and together, they made many memories as well as raised their 3 children.  He and the family moved to Irving for a brief time where he worked as an inspector of F16 Fighter Jets at LTV Aeronautics but soon returned to his roots in Nacogdoches and continued working in the auto parts industry.  Steve loved people and his job afforded him the opportunity to make many friends that he retained throughout his lifetime and dearly treasured.

Through the years, Steve taught his children life lessons, strong morals, superb work ethics, the love of Christ and lived his life as an example to them all.  He dedicated his life to them.  They enjoyed many camping and fishing trips and never missed a moment to tell each other “I love you”.  He also enjoyed water skiing and traveling all over the country.  When he had quiet time, he often filled it with watching Dale Earnhardt and the NASCAR races or his beloved Dallas Cowboys!  When he was blessed with grandchildren, he could not have been happier!  His heart was full of joy when he had all his family surrounding him and he was the one standing in the kitchen cooking (which was ultimately the thing he was best at).   Although Steve and Betty Lou went their separate ways, she was always the true love of his life and they spoke often, keeping a check on each other and being the support system they each desperately needed.

Steve will be missed by his children, Steve Michelle, Jr., Charlotte Montes & husband, Gary and Joey Michelle and wife, Tyana; grandchildren, Gary Lee Montes, Stephen Montes, Amanda Michelle, Melissa Michelle, Kitrinia Michelle, Gunner Micheli, Chaz Micheli, Blais Micheli and Tyce Micheli; and 8 great grandchildren and his sister, Lois (Paps) Steed Burden.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Guilermo “Willie” and Finey Ynfante Mechell.

The family wishes to give special recognition and thanks to Vernella Griffin Vallet for the exemplary care and outstanding dedication to Steve and the family during this hard time in their lives.
