Nina Wilson Obituary

Nina (Murrell) Wilson, 92, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away on April 20, 2023 in Lufkin, Texas. She was born on February 11, 1931, in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Harmon and Sallie (Fore) Murrell. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 24, 2023 at Laird Funeral Home, Nacogdoches, Texas with Jackie Yates officiating. Interment will follow at Gravel Ridge Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at Laird Funeral Home, Nacogdoches, Texas.

Nina Wilson was born in Nacogdoches Texas, to Noah Harmon Murrell and Sallie Fore Murrell on February 11, 1931. First and foremost, Nina was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. In her younger years, she worked at the Candy Factory, and at Mize Factory as a seamstress. She would use that skill of sewing to sew shirts for all her boys from the same piece of fabric. She also did various volunteer work. In her later years, she got her GED and then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education.

At the early age of 16, Nina married the love of her life James E. Wilson, on December 28, 1947. They were married for 63 years until the passing of James in 2011. She and James had 4 boys, all born within a 5 1/2 year time period. She and James raised them in a loving Christian home, and together they handled all the shenanigans that those 4 Wilson boys (that close in age), could think of, with God's help! She also helped raise her nieces for different periods of time. She loved her family and friends with all her heart, and would do anything she possibly could for them.

Nina loved and served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! She served as a faithful Pastors wife for 53 years. She even played the piano at times for the church service. She counted it a blessing to be of service to others. She worked with children in Vacation Bible School, provided transportation to friends and family in need, cooked many meals to feed others, donated money to various organizations that feed children, and also to further the work of the ministry of the Gospel.

Nina's favorite hobby was working in her garden and working in her flower beds.  She was still planting and harvesting that garden at the age of 90!

Nina is survived by her children: Howard Wilson and his wife Judy of San Antonio, William Wilson and his wife Imelda of Nacogdoches, Johnny Wilson of Nacogdoches, and Jerry Wilson and his wife Debbie of Nacogdoches. Her grandchildren: Rodney Wilson, Chris Wilson and his wife Erica, Victoria Wilson and Robert, Cemanthia Wilson, James Curtis Wilson and his wife Crystal, Drew Wilson and Jenna, and Whitney Wallace and her husband Lee.  Nina has 12 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren.

Nina was preceded in death by her parents, her 7 brothers and sisters, her husband James Wilson, and her daughter in law Patricia Wilson.

Serving as pall bearers are: Rodney Wilson, Chris Wilson, Drew Wilson, James Curtis Wilson, Lee Wallace, and David Flanagan. Honorary pallbearers are: Clifford Phillips, Ricky Phillips, Larry Carter and Jim Bryan.
