Michael Dale Welch

Visitation for Michael D. Welch, 62, of Chireno will be held from 5-7pm Monday, October 2, 2023 at Laird Funeral Home.

Michael Dale Welch of Oak Island & Chireno, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2023.  He was surrounded by his loving wife and children.  Michael was well known for his faith in The Lord and his love for his family.  He was a successful commercial fisherman and a college graduate. Michael's biggest accomplishment was giving his life to The Lord at an early age.  He was always singing and playing his guitar, romancing his wife and bringing the youth of the church to discover their faith. Michael and Becky bought a home and moved to Chireno, Texas where he became a well-known cattleman and hay hauler.  Michael's dreams and ambitions led him to San Augustine, Texas where he opened an automotive shop, enabling him to help many people.  Michael's calling and sense of adventure sent him on many travels, including missionary trips to Belize and a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.  He just recently obtained his Commercial Drivers License and was preparing for his next big life adventure.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Welch; children, Sheri Conner, Joey Holt, Michael Welch and Amber Welch; many precious grandchildren; father, Dale & wife, Karen; sister, Jeannie & husband, Virgil and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members.  Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie Mae Shiver.

Michael always had larger than life dreams and never let anything stand in his way of achieving those dreams.  He will be loved and fiercely missed by everyone who knew him.
