Marye Jones

Marye Jeannine Pulsipher-Jones, age 79, passed away at home in Nacogdoches, Texas, on Sunday, September 26, 2021. Marye was born on March 30, 1942 in Pontiac, Illinois to Lloyd George Pulsipher and Geneva Hogan-Pulsipher.  Living in Nacogdoches from 1944 throughout her lifetime, Marye graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1960 and received her Master’s Degree in counseling from Stephen F. Austin State University.  In her 30+ year career as a teacher, Marye first taught at Woden ISD, Jasper ISD, Central Heights ISD, and Cushing ISD and ultimately spent the majority of her career teaching typing, shorthand, and other business classes at Nacogdoches High School.

Marye married Matthew Kenneth Jones on June 5, 2007, and retired early to be his loyal caretaker throughout his battle with cancer.  Marye belonged to First Christian Church in Nacogdoches and adored anything that involved her girls or grandsons. She also enjoyed sewing, being outdoors, and traveling.  She visited Africa, Alaska, Hawaii, Italy, Spain, the Caribbean, and Mexico, as well as many other destinations throughout her lifetime.  Above all, her absolute favorite place to visit was Africa.  Marye and Matt enjoyed 5 African safaris together, and she remembered each and every unique name of their trophies and mounts, together with interesting stories about camping in the bush and tracking animals.  With friends worldwide and family throughout the US, anyone who knew Marye describes her as beautiful, sweet, and giving. Her faithful heart was obvious to all and her brilliant smile permeated the room.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly Greer of Cypress and Jenny Sammons of Nacogdoches; one son-in-law, Jeff Sammons of Nacogdoches; two grandsons, Ethan Greer and Aidan Greer of Cypress. Also surviving are numerous nephews, nieces, beloved extended family members, cousins, friends, and church family.  Marye is preceded in death by her husband, Matt; daughter, Jeannine; parents, Lloyd and Geneva Pulsipher; brothers, Jerry and Tommy Pulsipher; and a host of other loved ones, including:  grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.  She is also predeceased by her two beloved boxer dogs, Casi and Molly. 

Visitation is Friday, October 1, 2021 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Laird Funeral Home, 2116 South Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75964.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11:00am in the sanctuary of First Christian Church, 702 N. Mound Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75961.  

Interment will follow immediately after the service at Sunset Memorial Park, 5127 North Street, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965.
