Mary Fleniken Obituary

A memorial service for Mary Louise Fleniken, 89, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024, in the chapel at Laird Funeral Home.  Service to be officiated by Brad McKenzie, pastor at Perritte Memorial Methodist Church. 

Mary Louise was born November 16, 1934, in Nacogdoches and passed away January 11, 2024, at a nursing facility in Pearland.  Mary was born in Nacogdoches but moved to Houston at the young age of 8, where she lived until attending college in Nacogdoches.  Mary Louise graduated from SFA College (now SFASU) with a degree in Home Economics and began her professional career working there as well.  Mary Louise made many life-long friendships during her career at SFA.  Later Mary moved to a career with McKinney Drilling Company, where she served as an executive assistant to R.W. McKinney, Jack McKinney, John McKinney, Bob Banks, and Jack Raines for many years until she retired.

Mary Louise is survived by her daughter, Davalyn Fleniken Lapp and her husband Benjy of Friendswood, sister-in-law Patricia Ann Williams of Kingwood, sister-in-law Paula Williams of Coldspring, niece Wendy Sheffield (Alan) of Humble, great niece Delaney Sheffield, of Humble, great nephew Alec Williams, sister-in-law Orbie Jean Hughes of Shreveport, LA, nephew Doug Harris (Debbie) of Dayton and their son Jimmy and nephew Terry Hughes (Aimee) and their children of Shreveport, LA. 

She is preceded in death by her ex-husband, Darvin Fleniken, her father, Martin Quinn Williams, her mother, Dorothy Lilly Williams, her brothers Max “Buddy” Williams and Ross Martin Willams and her nephew Martin Ross Williams.  Also, by her father-in-law, Orbie “Jake” Fleniken, her mother-in-law, Mamie Harris Fleniken; and sister-in-law Marion Louise Harris, and by a nephew and two nieces.  

Many thanks to the caring staff from Traditions Hospice of Houston, the staff at Oasis of Pearland Nursing Facility and especially to her compassionate caregiver Jennifer Church who spent countless hours making her final days brighter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Perritte Memorial Methodist Church in Nacogdoches (Mary’s church) or Love INC of Nacogdoches (Mary volunteered there).
