Libby Gail Mitchell passed away on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at her home in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was born on May 1, 1946, in Nacogdoches, the daughter of Clyde and Melba Aiken of Douglass, Texas.

She grew up in the Douglass Community and graduated from Douglass High School. Libby was Employed by Texas Farm Products where she met her future husband, Tommy Mitchell. They both worked there until retirement. The Aiken family were members of the Methodist Church in Douglass and Tommy and Libby were married there on May 31, 1969. They were married for almost 49 years before Tommy’s passing in 2018. They spent the first seventeen years of their marriage traveling all over the United States, together or with family, and eating at great restaurants. In 1985, their son, Mark Stephenson Mitchell, was born, but it did not slow them down because they took him with them.

Libby and Tommy loved going to antique fairs and flea markets. She and her sister-in-law, Alice, went to all the garage sales every Saturday morning for several years. Although Libby always stayed up late, they have been known to arrive as early as 5 A.M. to secure a ticket to an estate sale. She always had at least two cats and tended to her own as well as feeding all the neighborhood strays. She loved gardening and beautiful flowers could always be found around her home. Libby also loved to read. She especially enjoyed Christmas and decorating her home inside and out. She, Tommy, and Mark always spent Christmas Day with both sides of the family. Both before and after Tommy passed, she always looked forward to going out to eat with her sisters and her brothers-in-law most Fridays.

She is survived by her son, Mark Stephenson Mitchell of Austin; sisters, Becky Simpson and husband, Jerry of Nacogdoches, and Nancy Moore and husband, David of Nacogdoches; sister-in-law, Alice Joy Randall and husband, Charles of Nacogdoches; niece, Amy Butler; nephews, Terry Brown, Tony Randall, and Don Jones; and several great nephews and nieces.
