Leta Johnson Obituary

Leta Faye Johnson passed away on January 9th in Nacogdoches Texas. She was born October 3, 1934 and grew up in the Houston area. Leta was married to Lewis Boney for over 40 years and had four children. Leta and Lewis retired to San Augustine where they fulfilled a life-time dream to build a house and barn with their own hands and have a farm with a pond. They did not retire, instead Mom worked to support Lewis while he earned yet another degree and taught school. He became the deacon of their church and Mom continued to work as the church secretary after Lewis’ death.

Leta was fortunate to find another great love. She met James Johnson in line at McDonalds and traded the farm for a new house in Nacogdoches where they created a beautiful backyard sanctuary. They were inseparable for 20 years until his death just 3 months ago.

Mom was so creative, she was left-handed and could draw anything and man was she a great cook. She had a degree and worked in fashion merchandising. She made all our clothes, uniforms for our drill and twirling teams (and we mean the entire team), not to mention the custom clothes for executives, menswear, couture ball gowns and eventually quilts – no patterns needed.

Leta is survived by two daughters, Susan Fowler of Austin, TX and Patricia Robertson of Friant, CA, a sister, Betty Vick-Addison of Chandler, TX, and James’ children and grandchildren. Leta was predeceased by her parents, Lester and Mamie Smith, sister Jane Johle and brother Harold Smith as well as Leta's two sons, Stephen Boney of Lake Jackson, TX and David Boney of San Augustine, TX, the latter who graced her with 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
