Leigh Allum Obituary

Visitation for Leigh Ann Allum, 53, of Nacogdoches will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 3:00pm - 7:00pm at Laird Funeral Home.  A service will begin at 6:00pm at Laird Funeral Home.  Leigh passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 in Nacogdoches. Interment will be held at Woodlawn Garden of Memories Cemetery in Houston on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 12:00pm.

Leigh Ann Allum was born on September 28, 1968 in Harris County to Rebecca and Herbert Allum, Jr.  She was smiling from the time she was born!  2 years later, Becky was tragically taken from them.  Herbert was left to being a single parent to his precious little girl.  It wasn’t long until God gifted Herbert with a dear friend, Linda.  The two fell in love and Linda knew she was destined to be a second mom to Leigh.  She did just that.  6 years after Leigh was born she was blessed with a sister, Jennifer.  The two girls loved each other very much.  Leigh eventually found herself in Nacogdoches attending Stephen F. Austin State University.  She loved it here and decided to stay.  Leigh developed a great passion for music and of course, dancing.  There were likely very few people who could stomp across the floor or sway to the beat of the music with a dance partner better than Leigh.  Jitterbugs was one of her favorite places and EVERYONE there…. from the people coming in the door, to the staff, knew and loved her.  Her bubbly personality and her never-ending love of people was the thing that drew everyone to her.  She also thrived at teaching dance lessons.  Leigh seemed to never have a bad day, but if she did, very few people knew it.  She was devoted and loving; joyous and friendly; kind, gracious and welcoming.  She was generous and giving and never met a stranger.  Leigh loved many things in her life, but family and friends were the most important.  She loved to travel but was always ready to return home.  She collected things.  Those things might change from time to time, but she loved looking for them!  She also had a green thumb!  Her flowers were beautiful and she likely could take any type of flower and make it thrive.  She was proud of the beautiful blooms that she created with her tender hands and loving heart.  She also loved animals.  Her dogs and cats were very special to her and she had a hard time turning down anyone who had one without a home.  Leigh was just like that.  She loved hard and she loved completely and that was one of her very best traits (along with her “gift of gab” of course!).

After she settled in Nacogdoches, she was able to have her sister come spend the summers with her and off to her favorite places they would go.  They enjoyed being with Leigh’s friends and spending time on the lake was one of the many things that afforded them lots of great memories.  Leigh was very happy when her dad and Linda moved closer to her.  She visited with them as much as possible and made sure to call every day to check on them.  She and Linda would attend each of the SFA Basketball games together and she and her dad were able to spend many days sitting and talking and catching up.  She was definitely a daddy’s girl.

Leigh was employed at Elliot Electric where she made many lasting friendships.  They all knew how much of a sweetheart she was and enjoyed her visits and even her ranting some days.  She will be missed by them.

Leigh loved dancing and music.  After the fall of Jitterbugs, she found herself back on the dance floor at Banita Creek Hall and spent many evenings there with friends as they made memories and laughed at each other until they cried.  She was always the life of the party!

Leigh is survived by her dad, Herbert Allum & wife, Linda; sister Jennifer & wife, Jean; aunts, Virginia Duke and Lois Grimes & husband Mike.  She is also survived by other family members as well as her many wonderful friends that she considered family as well.

Leigh is preceded in death by her mother, Rebecca Lee Allum; grandparents, Partin & Hughlene Duke, Herbert & Garnet Allum and Adam & Laura Theiss and her godmother, Julie Harriman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Tomlinson, Steve Smith, Steve Bryant, Ronnie Wilson and Marty Mitchell.

Leigh was a simple woman.  She would dress up for work and special occasions but mostly, she was in a T-Shirt, flip-flops or crocks, and shorts.  She would be very happy for everyone to show up wearing their favorite T-shirts (her favorite was her SFA shirt) for her visitation and service.
