Mrs. Ellis passed away on November 5, 2023 in Conroe. She was born on October 29, 1931 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
LaNell Samples Ellis grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. She met Tommy Ellis at the age 13 (he was 15) standing on a grassy mound outside of South Highland Baptist Church. Even as young as she was, she knew she had met the man of her dreams and a few years later married him two days after her graduation from Little Rock Central High School. Together they took on life in a variety of ways: fishing, boating, water skiing, remodeling their home, attending and helping at their home church and not even slowing down when their daughter, Tonna, was born in 1953. LaNell really became known as just “Nell” because that’s what Tommy called her all the time and it just stuck. Putting God first was their main focus, playing the piano at church while Tommy lead, tithing at their church, and giving to several charities. Nell loved the Lord and told others about Him whenever she could. Her favorite scripture was:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Phil. 4:13
Nell is survived by her husband, Tommy; her daughter, Tonna and her husband Neil Davis; Grandsons: Aric and his wife, Angela; their children Jaycee (17), Jaxon (15), and Brooks (10); Scott and his wife Jana; their children: Brynn (15), Sage (12), and Avelyn (11).
Preceded in death by parents: Sam and Clara Samples; her sister Eileen Elms and brother-in-law Earl Elms, and her brother Staff Sergeant Earl Slade.
Honorary Pallbearers: Aric Davis, Scott Davis, Jaxon Davis, Sage Davis, Brooks Davis, and Jeff Lazarine.
