After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, Kathy went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2025. David, her loving husband of nearly 63 years, was by her side.

Kathleen (Kathy) Dorsett King was born on August 9, 1940, to Jesse and Alice Maxine (Mitchell) Dorsett. Kathy graduated from Douglass High School in 1959. She and David Merle King were married July 7, 1962, at the home of Baker and Frankie Denman. Kathy and David started their home together on the family farm before moving to their current home in Nacogdoches. Kathy created a park setting at their home filled with azaleas, crepe myrtles, hydrangeas, gardenias, magnolia, and dogwood trees. She loved gardening, mowing, and working in her park. Kathy loved her family, all things Texas, and the Republican Party. She was an incredible cook and was especially known for her fudge, divinity, peanut patty, pecan brittle, and pecan pies. Decorating for Christmas was the highlight of her year.

Kathy is survived by her husband, David; daughters, Sherrie (Ron) King Callahan, Susan King, April (Jesse) King Adams; and her son, Mitch (Amy) King; grandchildren, Sydney Callahan Everett, Ethan (Katherine) Callahan, Rebekah King, Skeet Adams, and Stihl Adams; and one great grandson, Luke Everett; her brother, Robert (Beverly) Dorsett; and many nieces and nephews.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Alice Maxine (Mitchell) Dorsett; brothers, Gene Autry Dorsett, James Nathan Dorsett, Carl Wayne Dorsett, Kenneth Orben Dorsett; and granddaughter, Taylor Elizabeth Callahan.

Pallbearers are her grandsons, Ethan Callahan and Skeet Adams, and nephews, Colton Dorsett, James Dorsett, Ricky Dorsett, and Gene Dorsett.

The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice and the Nacogdoches Treatment Center for the loving and attentive care given to Kathy. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Nacogdoches Treatment Center, 119 Hughes Street, Nacogdoches, TX 75961.
