Jonathon Humphreys Obituary

Funeral service for Jonathon Mark Humphreys, 60, of Nacogdoches will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at First Christian Church in Nacogdoches.  Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 1:00pm at First Christian Church.  Jon will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park.

Jonathon Mark Humphreys was born in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on January 26, 1964, to Joye and Rex Humphreys.  At an early age his family moved to Longview, Texas and from there to Nacogdoches, Texas in 1976.  It was there his father accepted the Senior Pastorate of the First Christian Church.

Jon graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1983.  He entered Angelina Junior College and after graduation, entered the Massey School of Business.  He was a beloved member of the First Christian Church where he was employed.  He served there faithfully for 48 years.  He was named Honorary Deacon in 2014.   Jon was a loyal member who prepared the communion for the Sunday church service every Saturday morning, seldom missing a week.  He was very particular and organized to see that the church sanctuary was in order for the following Sunday service.

Jon loved his family.  He took much pleasure in family get-togethers at the farm and lake.  He enjoyed playing cards with Regan and Will, his niece and nephew, listening to his favorite music and taking care of his special pet dog friend, Jack.

Jon will be remembered for his gentle and kind manner.  He had a wonderful, friendly smile and was greatly loved by his family and his church family.  He loved Jesus Christ and had accepted Him as his personal Savior as a young boy of 10 years of age.  His father, Rev. Rex Humphreys, took Jon’s confession of faith which was a very special event in his life.  His family and friends are celebrating that now that he is home with other beloved family members.

Jonathon is survived by his loving mother, Joye Humphreys of Nacogdoches; siblings, Joy Claer of Nacogdoches and Richard Humphreys & wife Debbie of Nacogdoches; niece, Regan Humphreys and nephews, William Rex Humphreys and Robert Garrett Claer.

He is preceded in death by his father, Rev. Rex Humphreys and a cousin, Larry Dee McGhee.

Serving as pallbearers will be Clay Coe, Buddy Stalnaker, Frank Still, Les Littleton, Ken Umbarger and William Rex Humphreys.

Honorarium pallbearers are Tom Huey, Rick Still, Jimmy Farrell, Bill Earley, Kenneth Anderson and Dr. Richard Baker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Nacogdoches or to the Rev. Rex and Joye Humphreys Stephen F. Austin Volleyball Scholarship Fund.
