John Dewey Hill

Funeral services for John Dewey Hill, 76, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Laird Funeral Home with Bro. Don Chumley officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Laird Funeral Home. 

Mr. Hill passed away on Friday, July 23, 2021, in Nacogdoches. He was born on January 15, 1945, in Hobart, Oklahoma. 

John D. Hill was a loving husband, a daddy to his 3 children, a grandfather to his 8 grandchildren, and a great grandfather to his 2 great-grandchildren.

He loved God and his family with all his heart. He taught his family about God’s word, guidance strength, and love, and modeled his faith.

He cherished his wife, Sylvia Hill for over fifty years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary just weeks before he departed his earthly body to be with his lord and savior.

He was a strong man. He loved his country, and he served his county as a Captain and later a Major in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

You could always find John spending time venturing about with his wife, even sitting in a parking lot, waiting patiently, or falling asleep, until Sylvia finished her shopping.

He loved time spent with his family, eating, listening to each other’s stories, hearing the laughter, and seeing his grandchildren’s smiling faces.

Every meal was always started with a prayer where he and his family would hold hands to pray. He would always ask for God’s protection over his family and country.

John was a very humble man and always put his family before himself.

He will be greatly missed. We know that he is at peace with his Heavenly Father and overjoyed to meet family members there.
