Graveside service for Jimmie Dale Greer, 80, of Tyler, TX, will be held at 11 AM, on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Nat Cemetery with Mr. Rob Phillips officiating.

Jimmie Dale Greer passed away peacefully in Tyler, Texas on June 29, 2022 after a long life he thoroughly enjoyed with his family close by sharing his warmth and wit until the end. He was born on May 1, 1942 to Robert Floyd and Velma Greer in Gainesville, Texas. Jimmie graduated from Gainesville High School in 1960, then served four years in the United States Air Force. The Air Force sent him to Yale to study Chinese before his intelligence gathering assignment in Taiwan. After 15 months in Taiwan, he spent the remainder of his service in Spokane, Washington. Jimmie enjoyed learning foreign languages and became fluent in Spanish and German in addition to Chinese.

After the Air Force, Jimmie went to the University of Texas at Austin carrying course loads up to 25 credit hours per semester while maintaining a straight “A” average to gain his Mechanical Engineering degree.  After graduation, Jimmie joined the Union Oil Company in Nederland, Texas where he met and fell in love with his future wife, Marsha Lane. They married in 1975 and had one daughter, Leslie.  Jimmie was a Vice President at the American Petroleum Institute (API) in Dallas, Texas where he enjoyed a long career.  Jimmie and Marsha spent their retirement years in the piney woods of East Texas living in both Nacogdoches and Tyler. 

Jimmie loved the Lord Jesus Christ from an early age and was active in the Green Acres Baptist Church senior ministry in Tyler. He was a great Dad and cherished his time with family and especially his grandchildren who brought him so much joy. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Bobbie Phillips and Wanda Eikman, and his wife Marsha. He is survived by his daughter Leslie Alexander, her husband Lane, and grandchildren Haley and Jacob.

A graveside service will be held at the Nat Cemetery in Nat, Texas on Wednesday, July 6th at 11 AM with Mr. Rob Phillips officiating. Laird Funeral Home of Nacogdoches will be handling the funeral arrangements.
