Jerry Kerr Obituary

A memorial service for Jerry Kerr, 54, of Nacogdoches, will be held at 5:00pm on Sunday, February 15, 2026 at First Christian Church of Nacogdoches. Jerry passed away on February 1, 2026, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born on August 28, 1971 in Frankfurt, Germany, the son of Thomas Ray Kerr and Sharon Elizabeth Rulfs.

Jerry touched the hearts of countless people and his life was truly majestic because of the friends he made along the way.  He could not be described any better than what was compiled by his pastor and friend:

“Jerry was a fixture (and famous) in all the college ministries here in Nacogdoches; all the college students adored him.  Every week, he would attend Crosspoint, Great Escape, Yellowhouse, and FCC's Disciple Student Fellowship.  Every week for 10 years at FCC, on Wednesdays for High School and Fridays for Jr. High, he was in charge of making the popcorn and helping organize the games.  When the kids would see him, they would shout out "Jerry!" and he would give one of his famous grins.  The youth truly loved Jerry and he loved them back.  Those 10 years were probably the most joy-filled years of his life.  He loved participating in all the events here at First Christian Church, especially when he was involved.

When he wasn't performing his duties at any of his ministries, he was going to all SFA sporting events.  He would be there in the front row, cheering on his Jacks.  All the coaches and players knew Jerry; again, he was famous!  He rode his bike everywhere, to all his ministries, SFA games and of course Popeyes!  Every year, Jerry attended the Passion Conference in Atlanta.  He was a volunteer there and he was the most famous door holder.  At every Christian concert, he would make his way backstage and meet the artist.  He personally met Louie Giglio, Mark Hall, Toby Mac, Mac Powell and many more. At one concert (I think Chris Tomlin) he was even brought out on stage.  The things in this life that we would never do, Jerry, in his innocence, would just push through and people loved him.  Jerry's love for Christ was true and simple, just like him.   The struggles of this life are no more and all the hardships have disappeared in the beautiful presence of his Savior.”

Jerry is survived by his brother, Tommy Kerr and family as well as many other loving family members that meant so very much to him.

His legacy of loving simply, without hesitation or prejudice, and doing it with a smile and complete dedication will forever remain within the reaches of the purple scoreboards of SFA but mostly in the blessed doorway of his beloved ministries that he literally lived for.
