A memorial service for Janice Sue (Durham) Williams will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, December 29, 2024, at Nacogdoches Gospel Assembly Church officiated by Bro. White. Mrs. Williams passed away on December 20, 2024, in Nacogdoches. She was born on July 16, 1947, in Lufkin to the late Jacob Beloved and Hazel Inez (Boatman) Durham.
Married to William Delaney (Dee) Williams Jr. in September of 1988
Janice was preceded in death by her parents Jacob Beloved Durham and Hazel Inez Boatman Durham, her husband William Delaney (Dee) Williams Jr, her sister Martha Ann Simpson, brother John Jacob Durham, nephew Jason Herschel Valentine, and niece Rebecca Hetti Parnell Thompson.
She is survived by her sister Sarah Beth Durham Moore, nieces and nephews Eric Parnell, Michael Valentine and wife Brandi, James Parnell and wife Jessica, Cody Durham, Marcie Hull and husband Mark, Samantha Chaplain and husband Jeremiah. She is also survive by numerous great nephews and nieces. She wished to make mention of the 1 million “greatest” friends and coworkers that she made along the way.
Janice graduated from Central Independent High School in 1965 and began her nursing education at Lillie Jolly Nursing School (Later Houston Baptist University). After graduating in 1969, she returned to Lufkin and began her career as a Nursing Housing Supervisor, before moving to Nacogdoches to take on the role of Director of Vocational Nursing at Nacogdoches Memorial for the next 4 years. In 1974, she returned to Houston to continue her education at San Jacinto Community College and University of Houston for a Business Administration Degree. While she continued her studies, she took work as a Plant Nurse and found that she loved occupational health nursing and practiced in the field for the next 15 yrs. She became a Certified Occupation Health Nurse and Dallas area president of the National Certification Board. After returning to Nacogdoches, she went to work at Nacogdoches Medical Center as an infection control and emergency room nurse. She moved to Staff Development and worked there until 2012, when she moved to the Surgery Center until she retired in 2016.
Janice loved her family, friends, nursing, education and her two dogs Mojie and Tucker. She was a proud member of the Nursing Honor Guard and was instrumental in founding the Altrusa club in Nacogdoches. She was always ready to take on a project, no matter how small. While she never had children of her own, she acted as a mother figure and advisor to her many nieces, nephews and siblings or anyone else she came across. Her wisdom and advice was freely given. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and were touched by her light.
