Funeral services for James Derr, 74, of Nacogdoches will be held at 2:00pm on Monday October 11, 2021 at Laird Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm - 2:00pm on Monday October 11, 2021 at Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Derr passed away on Friday October 8, 2021 in Nacogdoches. He was born on March 27, 1947.
James A. Derr was born on March 27, 1947 in Jacksonville, Texas to Wilburn and Mary Derr. He enlisted and served in the Army. Upon returning from Vietnam, he met and quickly married Francis Beauchamp. He retired, and they moved to Nacogdoches, Texas after 22 years of service. He served as music minister at Stallings Drive Baptist and Grace Baptist over many years. His hobbies included working outdoors, traveling, watching westerns, and picking on people, especially his daughter-in-law Yonnie and Bro. Bill Hunter.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Francis Derr, sisters Barbara and Mary Laverne, brother Doyle, son James L. Derr, son Michael Derr and wife Yonnie Derr, son Brian Derr, daughter Autumn Derr, granddaughters Krystal, Brittany, Alisha, and Rachel, and great grandsons Adam, Draven, Mark, and Brody,as well as various nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents Wilburn Derr and Mary Collins (Derr).
Serving as pallbearers are Ace Price, Jason Pilcik, Matthew Pilcik, Jason McClelland, Cadence Murphy, and Lukas Acosta. Honorary pallbearers are Zack Derr and Adam Harvey.
