Irven "Gene" Eugene Barlow

A memorial service will be held for Gene Barlow at 2:00pm Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Laird Funeral Home. Mr. Barlow went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 15, 2024. He was born on April 10, 1935, in Maud, Texas, to the late Richard and Mable Barlow.

A visitation with the family will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00pm.

Irvin Eugene “Gene” Barlow was born April 10, 1935, in Maud, Texas and passed away on June 15, 2024. 

Gene is survived by his three children, daughter Sharon and son-in-law Tim Badders, daughter April and son in-law Jesse Aparicio, and son Lee and daughter in-law Julie Barlow. Gene was blessed with seven grandchildren and their significant others, Kristen and Shannon Conklin, Cole Badders, Taylor Cox, Kelly Cox and Jim Ward, Alexandra and Larry Tirkey, Caroline and Clayton Boyd and Natalie Barlow. In addition, Gene’s legacy continues with his great grandchildren Carl and Adalyn Conklin, James and Olivia Ward, Myles Tirkey, and Cameron Griffith.  Gene’s only surviving sibling is Jerry Barlow.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Christine, parents Richard and Mable Barlow, sisters, Marcile Stafford, Louise Hughes, Delores Griffith, and granddaughter Connie Nicole Badders.

Gene grew up in Maud, Texas which was a very special place for him and where he will be laid to rest.  Once Gene graduated from high school, he moved to Tyler, Texas where he met the love of his life Christine while attending Tyler Commercial College. He joined the Navy in 1953 during the Korean War. Gene then married Christine when he left the service and moved to Austin, Texas to finish his undergraduate studies and then went on to graduate from the University of Texas Law school in 1961.   Upon graduation from law school, Gene joined the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and remained in service until he became the Corporate Attorney for LeTourneau in Longview, Texas.  In the early 70’s Gene moved his family to Plano, Texas as he started his new adventures with InterCap Corporation.  Gene and Christine then moved to San Antonio, Texas where he practiced law until his returned to Tyler, Texas in 1994 opening his own firm where he practiced law until his retirement in 2023.

Gene loved to help others and was gifted with a wonderful sense of humor and teased those he loved and cared about.  Gene had many dear friends and will be dearly missed by his family who have been left with great memories and a legacy of service. Gene loved his family, and we knew how important each one of us was to him.  He took an active interest in our lives and will remain forever a part of our lives.    

Memorial services for Gene will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Laird Funeral Home in Nacogdoches, Texas.  Visitation with the family is from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, with service starting at 2:00 pm.  Gene’s burial will be with family later in his beloved Maud, Texas.
