Mr. Faires passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 in Nacogdoches. He was born on November 2, 1942 in Orange.
Herbert was the son of Carl Faires and Dolly Mae Kirkland. During his childhood, along with his brother David, he learned the love of being outdoors. He and David spent many adventurous afternoons riding their horses and hunting hogs. He attended Nacogdoches High School and then honorably served in the United States Army. One evening while he was at Reeds Boiler Burger in Nacogdoches, a beautiful young car hop passed by and caught his eye. Linda was the most beautiful young lady he had ever seen, and the two became fast friends after one of his famous one-liners! They were married on October 17, 1964 at First Baptist Church in Mt. Enterprise. Their life has been blessed with more than just the arrival of their children and grandchildren, of which each of them were given nicknames. Their love story is a complete one that covers the hardships and trials as well as the accomplishments and wonderful memories they made during the 60 years they spent side by side. They taught their children to be independent and loyal, and to be thankful for every dollar they made. However, Herbert also taught them that if they made a dollar, they had best have earned it! He loved being in the woods fishing and hunting and took many fishing trips with the kids and grandkids from the time they were children, all the way through adulthood. He was honest, hard-working and had the biggest heart. He never missed an opportunity to tell funny stories, or a quote that made everyone laugh. He loved springtime when all the new leaves began to show and he was able to get outdoors to explore all of God’s creations. He was a realist and a good Christian man who showed his beliefs by leading his family by example. Herbert was a jack of all trades and could build almost anything, including the house they lived in. But his greatest work was done through his taxidermy business that he owned and operated since 1975. His witty sense of humor and tidbits of knowledge will forever live in the minds of his most loved people….his family and friends.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Faires; daughters, Connie Parker, Rachael Parker & husband, Jeff and Melanie Martino; son, Bubba Faires & wife Sherri; grandchildren, Tiffany Parker Hoya & husband CK, Kimberly Parker, Ashley Parker, Jeffrey Parker, Jason Parker, Natalie Murdock, Sophia Murdock, Casey Faires, Shelby Faires and Amanda Faires; great grandchildren, Lane Parker Hoya, Colt Hoya, Mackenzy Hoya, Jax Parker, Korie Parker and another one expected in April; sister, Dorothy Porterfield and brother David Faires & wife Frances as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
