Memorial services for Helen Rose Burnaman Brown, 78, of Nacogdoches, Texas, will be held 3:00 pm Saturday August 6, 2022 at Laird Funeral Home with Bro Stephen Wiggins officiating. A Memorial Visitation will be held an hour prior to the services. Mrs. Brown passed away on July 27, 2022 in Nacogdoches, TX. She was born to parents Harland and Ruth Burnaman, on August 31, 1943, in Nacogdoches, Texas and grew up in the Shady Grove community.
She graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1961 and went on to study elementary education at Stephen F. Austin State College where she graduated with Bachelor of Science in 1964.
Helen had a passion for teaching elementary children and was gifted at helping children pass their state assessment tests. After 30 years of service as a teacher, she retired from Deweyville ISD in 2007 and returned to the Nacogdoches area. Even in retirement, she was often called upon to return and share her expertise with children at Martinsville ISD, back where she began her education as a child.
Helen really enjoyed cooking, traveling, quilting, and spending time with her friends in her younger years. She was well known to friends and family for her coconut pies and Mexican cornbread. Helen always loved playing games and in her retirement was able to play her beloved game of 42 for many years.
Helen is survived by children, Scott Coyle and wife Kristen of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Kris Peet and husband Drew of Huffman, Texas, and Russell Brown and wife Esther of Houston, Texas.
She is also survived by her sister Lillie Ross and husband Houston of El Paso, Texas and sister-in-law Sue Burnaman of Spring, Texas, as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen leaves behind many friends, and the family would especially like to thank Florence Heard for her long-devoted friendship.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harland and Ruth Burnaman, brother Fred Tucker Burnaman, sisters and brothers-in law, Sue & Robert Stanaland, Harlene & James Muckelroy, and her nephew Steven Ross.
The family has entrusted Laird Funeral Home with the arrangements. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Laird Funeral Home, located at 2116 South Street in Nacogdoches.
