Often enough, strong women are either misunderstood or mistaken for trying to be impressive. Heather McIntire was neither mistaken nor misunderstood. Her life story proved all of this and those she loved the most would back it up. She was intelligent, strong, independent and loving. She cared more for others than she did herself and dedicated her life to just that. She loved hard and supported those around her without regret. Her life was filled with many rewarding moments and when moments came that were not the best, she fought through them with grace and dignity. She was a strong believer of Christ and took every moment she was given, to boast and uplift her Savior. She taught classes at her church and while she was attending Harvest Point Church, she was honored to be the Awana Leader. She and David spent the last several years at The Vinyard where they enjoyed being a part of the church and making wonderful friends.
Heather grew up in Wilkinsburg and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in 1968. In 1969, after joining the United States Air Force, she proudly completed her basic instructional training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and officially enlisted. She was the first woman from the Wilkinsburg area to enter the Air Force program for women under the new expansion program. She went on to train in many areas, including Medical Service Specialist, Instructor, Noncommissioned Officer Leadership, Management for Air Force Supervisors, OJT Management Supervision, Air Force Logistic Command Noncommissioned Officer Academy and Training Instructor. She also served in Turkey during the ‘Turkey-Cyprus’ war. She was beyond honored to have spent over 16 years in the United States Air Force. She also obtained a bachelor’s degree and a teaching degree, which allowed her to serve as a Special Education Teacher for a period.
Heather met David McIntire while living in California and in June of 1993, they were married at Lake Tahoe. Heather also enjoyed spending time sewing, scrapbooking and crocheting.
