Harold Dwain Lovett

H. Dwain Lovett, 76, of Montserrat, British West Indies, the “Emerald Isle of the Caribbean,” passed away suddenly but mercifully, peacefully, after a very sudden decline in his health in the early morning hours on April 18, 2024, while in Nacogdoches, TX. He had been anticipating a cardiac procedure, so he could return home to his beloved wife and island home. His loss is completely unexpected, and his family is profoundly saddened.

He started his voyage from his birthplace of Orange, Texas having been born to Constance Odessa Coppels-Lovett (Connie) and Harold Cooper Lovett (Cooper). He was the eldest of three children: brother Thomas Paul Lovett (Tom) and stillborn baby sister Mary Elizabeth Lovett. He graduated from West Orange High School in 1965 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration from Lamar University. He started his career in medical device and pharmaceutical sales, and later his friendly personality and unrelenting dedication and attention to every detail allowed him to flourish as Director of Marketing and Development for SunScript Pharmacies southwest region.

Dwain and his wife, Ruthann Bell-Lovett were married on the island of Monserrat in 2002 and in 2006, realized their lifelong dream. They left TX, and sailed to Montserrat, BWI where he continued to endear himself to all who met him. Musician and artist Donny Brewer wrote of Dwain and Ruthann in his song, “Living in a Postcard.” Dwain lived his life fully and professed his love daily. His faith was strong, unwavering, with a true love for humanity.

Dwain enjoyed sailing and cruising the Caribbean seas. In retirement in Montserrat, Dwain was involved in several business and civil endeavors. He was Commodore of the Montserrat Yacht Club. During the active volcanic years in Montserrat, Dwain revitalized the Montserrat Property Owner’s Association (MPOA) and was instrumental in growing communications between the residents and political leadership of Montserrat. Dwain was also the driving force behind providing MPOA scholarships for the children of Montserrat. Dwain was the Co-Founder of Fly Montserrat Airways. Dwain served on the Montserrat Cultural Center’s Board of Directors. Dwain was the author of Rescued! The Amazing Story of Gertie Agouti, a book selected for the “Books 4 Kids Program.” Dwain enjoyed providing property management services for expatriate properties and indirectly providing jobs for the local community.

Dwain is survived by his loving wife, Ruthann Lovett, his brother Tom Lovett (wife Dr. Frances Lovett, Lovett children Christy Lymbery, Merideth Smith and husband Larry Smith, Callen Lovett and Heidi K., and Lovett grandchildren Dylan Moore and fiancée Haley Balch, Mason and Mackenzie Moore, Christopher, Emily and Sam Lymbery, Alanna Lovett), son Dr. Dennis Lovett (wife Dr. Jeanne Lovett and children Paul and Sara Lovett),son Todd Baker (wife Beverly and child Lindsay) and adopted island son, Eli P’erez and many loyal friends and extended family members.

Dwain is predeceased by his parents, Connie and Cooper Lovett, little sister Mary Elizabeth Lovett and son Ty Linn Baker.

Dwain’s animal companions were dear to him. Canines Cody, Angie and Gertie the genetically impaired Agouti (befriended by their cat) stayed behind with Ruthann, but Canines Picard, K-Pax and Feline Jasmine are on a long walk with him now.

Dwain is to be cremated. The interment of ashes will occur privately in Nacogdoches, TX and a celebration of life reception is planned for the weekend of July 4, 2024. His remains will also be flown from the United States to Montserrat, British West Indies. The family is currently making plans for the funeral and reception. Further details will be shared soon.
