Gordon "GP" Weatherly, Jr Obituary

A Graveside Service for Gordon "G.P." Weatherly, 68, of Garrison will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Cold Springs Cemetery with Bro. Shak Arrington officiating.  A visitation will be held from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Laird Funeral Home in Nacogdoches.

Mr. Weatherly passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026 in Garrison.  He was born on April 18, 1957 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma to Gordon Sr. and Eva Weatherly.

Gordon Weatherly Jr, known to most as G.P. spent his entire life in his favorite place on earth.  He loved Garrison and was dedicated to remaining a Garrison Bulldog even in his adult years.  Being from Garrison was more than just saying that is where he lived.  Garrison is where he planted his roots, raised his children, built a great life for him and his wife Linda and watched as his greatest joy….his grandchildren…played and made memories that are engraved in time.  G.P. was a simple man who dedicated most of his time to working so his family was provided for.  He was the epitome of what a family man should be.  His life was an example to Rashael and Adam, and he was nothing less than proud of the lives each of them built.

G.P. loved being outdoors.  He was a great hunter and always had a productive garden.  His Lady cream peas, along with anything else he grew, provided an abundance each year that he was happy to share with anyone who wanted fresh, home-grown vegetables.  Hunting was second nature to a man who grew up appreciating what God placed around him amongst the woods and animals.  He even had a pet alligator at one point that resided in the pond that he named “Gatorade”.  Of course, his prized deer, the 17 point he spoke of to everyone, hung just above his chair (maybe as a reminder for him or most likely as a talking point that he could always hold over even the best hunter’s head).  G.P. was a jokester.  Everyone knew it and it didn’t matter where or what was going on, he would crack jokes about something and that simple trait is what people loved the most.  Any and every situation was made better with the funny, witty, joyful character that only came with G.P. Weatherly.

G.P. is survived by his best friend and wife of over 46 years, Linda Harvey Weatherly; children, Rashael Patterson & husband Al and Adam Weatherly and wife Summer; grandchildren, Haylie Stroud, Landrey Stroud, Emersyn Weatherly and Allysa Patterson; sisters, Nelda Rhame, Diane Wimberley and Adelle Skillern & husband Bobby; brothers, Eddie Weatherly & wife Mickey, Mike Clifton & wife Cecelia, Dan Clifton & wife Sharon and Sammy Clifton & wife Linda; brothers-in-law, Richard Towner, Wesley Cosby & wife Kim and Kevin Cosby; sister-in-law, Patricia Cox and numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.  G.P.’s large family made it possible for everyone to be surrounded by a love that can only be described and beautiful and unwavering.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon Weatherly Sr. and Eva Weatherly; stepmother, Ada Vae Weatherly; sister, Ellen Towner; brothers, Tony Clifton & wife Linda Kay; and brothers-in law, Glenn Rhame, Bob Wimberley and Michael Cosby.

Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Weatherly, Al Patterson, Brian Wright, Raymond Yockey, Kelby Bell and Jimmy Barton. Honorary pallbearers are Rusty Arrington, Wade Wright and Andy Yockey.
