Gladys Johnson Obituary

A graveside service for Gladys Pearl (Ward) Johnson, 96, of Douglass, will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Douglass Cemetery, officiated by Chaplain Robert Carter.

Gladys Johnson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother left us here to miss her and remember her on March 10, 2025.

She was born September 24, 1928 to Luther and Mollie Ward in North Carolina. She married John F. Johnson, who preceded her in death on October 12, 2024, in November 1947.

She had many jobs in her life but the most important job, to her, was her husband and her children. Her grandchildren, greats and great-greats held the same special place in her heart because there was room there for us all.

She was an avid quilter and made sure every family member had one to cherish, made solely from her loving hands.

She always anticipated expected and unexpected company, reveling in being the perfect hostess with food for all and a place to lay their heads.

Gladys is survived by her four daughters: Rita Rawlings, Peggy and husband Vone Foley, Deanna and husband Thomas Smith and Nancy and husband Dan Johnson, daughter-in-law Margie Johnson, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Johnson in 2024, her oldest child Ronnie Johnson in 2016 and her son-in-law Mark Rawlings in 2022.

Life as we know it will never be the same but she prepared us for the kind of life she wanted us to lead and we shall strive for that.
