Gary Dickey, 77 of Nacogdoches, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 in Nacogdoches.
Gary was born in Huntsville, AL to Jack and Lela Mae Pritchett Dickey on October 21, 1947. He went to high school at Texas City High School in Texas City, TX and graduated in 1965. Gary played on the baseball and golf teams. After attending college at Lamar University in Beaumont he went to work for Texas City Refining Inc. which later became Valero for 37 years.
Gary loved playing golf and bowling in a men’s league and mixed league with his wife, Drucilla. He was a die-hard University of Alabama football fan. He came to love Southern Gospel music after his marriage to Drucilla, attending concerts all over Gulf Coast and East Texas. Gary and Dru, along with his cousin, Melvina Pritchett Phillips, of Alabama, had many excellent adventures researching their ancestors across TX, AL, TN, NC, SC, and GA. They called them excellent adventures because in searching for cemeteries, their GPS would lead them to dead ends, ponds, woods, etc.
Gary is survived by his wife of 42 years, Drucilla Sparks Dickey of Nacogdoches, TX; sons Charles Jamison Dickey and Damon Chadwick Dickey of Colorado; brother, Ronald Dickey of Bandera, TX; three nieces, Melissa Dickey Wilson, Courtney Cornett Adams and Heather Simmons Jannett; and four nephews, Brian Dickey, Brian Simmons, Kevin Simmons and Justin Cornett.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Lela Mae Pritchett Dickey.
Serving as Pallbearers are Brian Dickey, Brian Simmons, Kevin Simmons, Justin Cornett, Corey Jannett and Justin Adams.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
