Elton Cox

Graveside service for Elton Pierce Cox, 79, of Nacogdoches and formerly of Broaddus will be held at 9:00am on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Broaddus Cemetery.  A visitation will be held fron 5-7pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Cox passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026 in Lufkin.  He was born on September 2, 1946 in Broaddus.

Elton “Turtle” Cox, a proud United States Navy veteran and longtime member of the Nacogdoches community, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family.

Turtle was known for his strong work ethic, his loyalty to family and friends, and his deep roots in Nacogdoches, where he worked for many years. He also had a great sense of humor and a way of making people laugh, even during ordinary moments. Those who knew him will remember his funny stories, quick wit, and the smile he could bring to the people around him.

He carried the pride and discipline of his Navy service throughout his life, but he will be remembered just as much for his warmth, humor, and love for his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Cox, who passed away earlier this year.

He is survived by his daughters, Theresa Cox Dunner and her husband, Jon, and Jessica Cox; and his beloved grandsons, Jake and Jack. His family will forever cherish the memories they shared with him and the laughter he brought into their lives.

Turtle will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
