Eloise Adams Obituary

Eloise Chambers Adams passed away Friday, September 5, 2025 in Garrison, Texas.  She was born December 9, 1934 to William Trout and Mabel Terry Chambers in Nacogdoches, Texas.

She attended SFA Demonstration School and graduated from Nacogdoches High School in 1952, and from SFA in 1957 with degrees in art and education.  She attended Sul Ross, Duke University, and the University of Wisconsin for one semester each, and Cranbrook Academy of Art for two semesters.  She and David Duane Adams of Nacogdoches were married in the chapel at Moffett Field, California on February 22, 1957.  They returned to Texas the next year and she taught 6th grade and junior high art in Waco and 6th grade in Snyder and San Antonio before returning with her husband to Nacogdoches in 1966.

Eloise worked as a volunteer at Christ Episcopal Church, in restoration projects for the Stern-Hoya House and the Old Nacogdoches University Building, and as a board member for the Stern-Hoya House and Nacogdoches Treatment Center.  From 1989 to 2004, she was gallery director for the SFA Department of Art.  In retirement, she worked as a volunteer for the Nacogdoches County Democratic Party and the East Texas Research Center at SFA.She was preceded in death by her husband David Duane Adams.

She is survived by her son Michael Adams and granddaughters, Lilia and Sylvia Adams, and siblings, Dorothy Kastenmeier of Arlington, Virginia, W. Terry Chambers of Dallas, and Marilyn Ralstin of Irving, Texas.
