Elnor Rae (Porter) Smith

Funeral services for Elnor Rae Smith, 89, of Nacogdoches will be held at 10:00 am on May 21, 2022, at Laird Funeral Home with Bro. Jonathan Beames, Bro. John Denby, and Bro. Gary Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on May 21, 2022, at Laird Funeral Home.

Elnor Smith was born in Center, Texas and was reared in the small community of Sardis, in Shelby County. She attended local community school in Sardis and met her future husband Elzie D. Smith Sr. there. Elzie and Elnor became one in marriage on October 24, 1949, and would maintain a loving marriage for 48 years. During those years, they would have two sons and one daughter.

In her free time, Elnor enjoyed going on long road trips across the United States, helping Elzie with his garden, sewing, and cooking for her family and friends. One thing that no one could deny is that her coconut and chocolate pies were to die for.

Elnor Smith was actively involved in Missionary Baptist Church now known as Harvest Point Church, and frequently taught VBS and Sunday school. She also played a large roll in the Ladies’ ministry there and continued to devote her time in every way she could until she was no longer able.

Elnor is survived by her daughter, Sandra Hoppe; son, Kyle Smith and wife Stacy; sister, Billie Luman; grandchildren, Jake Smith, Trey Smith, Will Smith, Jayson Hoppe and Steve Fischer, Greg Hoppe and wife Vonda, and Brett Smith and wife Savannah; granddaughters, Jamie Smith, and Jodie Goff and husband Joe; great-granddaughter, Katelyn Hoppe and fiancé Brandon Whitehead; great-grandchildren, Jacob Goff, and Gregory Hoppe and wife Victoria; great-great-grandson, Hudson Hoppe; niece Sherry Bishop.

Elnor is preceded by her parents, Bud Porter, and Willie Mae “Cooper” Porter; husband, Elzie D. Smith Sr.; son, Elzie D. Smith Jr. and wife JoKaren; sisters, Audrey Oliver, Faye Howard, and Polly Howard; son-in-law, Frank R. Hoppe; brothers, Delbert Porter, Pete Porter, and Jake Porter.

Serving as pallbearers are grandsons, Greg Hoppe, Jayson Hoppe, Brett Smith, Jake Smith, Trey Smith, and Will Smith.
