ElVeda Kay Crawford Flower of Chireno, Texas was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on June 11, 1952 to Mary Magdalene Sparks and Thomas Edward Crawford.  After a long battle with cancer, ElVeda passed away on June 20, 2023 surrounded by her children.

Veda Kay was a loving mother, wife and mawmaw. She loved her children deeply and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  She had an unrivaled protective motherly instinct.  Her priority was always to put her family first.  Gloryland Pentecostal Church was her home church and she always revered the power and goodness of God.  She was baptized by the late Rev. Freeman Bryant.

Veda was a wonderful cook.  Her grandbabies often enjoyed baking with her.  The rest of us couldn’t wait for the next batch of tea cakes.

She was frequently seen with a cup of coffee in her hand sitting on her wrap around porch, looking over her flowers. She enjoyed tending to her plants and garden, making jams and jellies, and tending to her animals.

Veda Kay was always there when you needed her to give you a good tight hug.  There was comfort and love felt in every second of that squeeze.  She was always willing to talk to you on the phone when you needed someone to keep you awake on your ride home even if she was tired, too.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Benton; her children, Sondra, John (Gina) and Tray (Misty); her grandchildren, Chelsea, Blake, Carter, Jack, Jason and Oaklee; her great grandchildren, Atley and Layken and two sisters.

Veda – Mother – Mama – Mawmaw – will be fondly missed by her family and her memory will live on in our hearts forever.  We know one day we will get to be together again.

We love you “a bushel and a peck.”
