Graveside services for Earline McLain Jacobs, 89, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday March 30, 2021 at Simpson Campground Cemetery in Woden, Texas, with Pastor Daryl Crawford officiating.
Earline was born August 9, 1931 in Appleby, Texas to the late James “Jim” McLain and Nancy “Nannie” Miller McLain and passed away on Monday March 29,2021 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Earline attended school in Appleby and Nacogdoches. She met her future husband, Worth Jacobs at a basketball game in Woden and they were married on January 1, 1949. Earline and Worth started their married life in Woden where they bought farmland and raised cattle and poultry. They later bought into Patton’s Auction Barn and partnered with Odis and Vera Driver Hill, and later with Wayne and Dorothy King Jacobs. Together the family owned one of the largest meeting places for farmers and ranchers in Nacogdoches county. The family was honored in 2008 as “Farm Family of the Year” at the Annual Nacogdoches County Agriculture Appreciation Banquet. They were also active in their community, and while Worth served as president for the Woden ISD school board, they travelled the roads in between Woden and Melrose to successfully convince the voters to incorporate Melrose ISD with Woden ISD.
Earline was an avid bridge player and looked forward to the challenge the game brought each week. She loved both of her bridge clubs, the members and friends. She also loved Perritte Memorial Methodist Church where she and her family became a member in 1965. She served many years as treasurer for the board, was a member of the Pals Sunday School class and rolled dough with the Pie Crust Ladies for 30 years for the annual bazaar. Above all she loved her savior Jesus Christ. Her son, Stephen Jacobs and wife Lola; daughter, Stacy Jacobs; grandchildren, Stephan Alders and Kristin Borders; and great-granddaughter, Stella Jane Alders was the center of her life. Stella brought much joy to her MeMe in her older years.
Earline and Worth built a cabin at Shirley Creek during their middle years. They spent many weekends fishing and attending fish fries with their neighbors. They also visited Alaska several times to fish for salmon with some of their good friends. Earline traveled with their daughter Stacy, who was director of the CBTx travel club. They traveled many places in the US and Europe. One of her favorite trips was to Germany and Austria while her granddaughter Kristen was an international Rotary exchange student there.
Earline is survived by her son, Stephen Jacobs and wife Lola; daughter, Stacy Jacobs; grandchildren, Stephen Alders and Kristen Borders; great-granddaughter, Stella Jane Alders; step-grandchildren, Joseph Sadler, Andrew Sadler, Naomi Sadler McCracken; Sisters, Ruby McLain Skeeters and Dorothy McLain Skeeters; and sister-in-law Bonnie Jacobs.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Worth; her loving parents; brothers, James McLain, Homer McLain, Rufus McLain, Charlie McLain; sister, Iva McLain Clifton; and in-laws Billy Jacobs and Pearl King Jacobs.
