Delores Baker Obituary

Delores Jean “Dee” Holland Baker, age 94, passed away in Nacogdoches, Texas, on March 4, 2026. Dee was born on July 16, 1931, in Galveston, Texas, to Jess Hulon Holland and Dorothy Louise Lewis Holland.

Delores grew up on Galveston Island alongside her siblings and many friends and relatives. After graduating from Ball High School, Dee worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Galveston.

Dee married her high school sweetheart, Donald Clifton Baker, on March 29, 1952. The couple moved to La Marque, Texas, where they raised their children, Debra Kay (Baker) Perthuis and David Ray Baker. During her many years in La Marque, Dee was very involved in the La Marque Little League Baseball Association, often keeping score for David and Debbie’s games. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the La Marque Volunteer Fire Department, where she enjoyed competing in pumper races. Dee was active in the PTA for La Marque schools and was a devoted member of First Christian Church in La Marque, where she worked with the youth group, organized Vacation Bible School, and faithfully served wherever there was a need.

On December 9, 1985, Dee and Donald moved “to the country” in Chireno, Texas. There, she volunteered as a school aide, helping students who needed extra support with their work.

Dee leaves behind a family who adored her and who hope to carry on the legacy she lived out through her actions each day. She is survived by her daughter, Debra Kay Baker Perthuis (Tommy), and her son, David Ray Baker (Donna).

She has seven grandchildren: Brandon Perthuis (Michelle), Bret Perthuis (Tracy), Britnie Perthuis Morris, JoDee Baker Woodcock (Clint), Jared Baker (Jennessa), Jenny Baker Guinn (Nick), and Justin David Baker.

Her growing family also includes eleven great-grandchildren: Chase Perthuis; Ty and Brayden Perthuis; Kayden, Kynslee, and Kannon Morris; Callie Jo and Cara Jean Woodcock; and Harrison, Miles, and Eli Baker.

Dee is survived by her younger sister, Barbara Holland Bledsoe of Dickinson and her sister-in-law, Sandi Baker of Norfolk, Virginia, along with many nieces and nephews from both the Baker and Holland families whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Donald Clifton Baker; her parents, Jess Hulon Holland and Dorothy Louise Lewis Holland; her brothers, Jess Hulon Holland Jr. and Louis Holland; and her sisters, Ursula Holland Webster and Dorothy Holland Murphy.

Memorial service for Donald and Dee will be held March 21, 1:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 1204 Ross Street, La Marque, Texas.
