Memorial Service for David Richard Merland, 67, of Nacogdoches will be held at 10:00am on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Merland passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 in Nacogdoches.  He was born on August 2, 1956 in Covington, Kentucky.

David Merland was born in August 2, 1956 in Covington, Kentucky.  He grew up to know a very simple way of life and carried that through.  He met and married Shelia through a mutual friend.  Approximately 3 months later, the two of them joined in marriage and remained by each other’s side.  They spent many hours doing what David loved best….FISHING!  He adored his sweet wife and always made sure she had what she needed.  He helped her around the house and would even do the dishes for her if she needed him to.  No matter what it took to make her happy, he would always find a way to make it happen.  He was hardworking and dedicated.  He loved his family and going out to eat at his favorite Mexican food restaurant always put a smile on his face.  He also made sure to take the time to watch his favorite wrestling matches. 

David is survived by his loving wife, Shelia of Nacogdoches; sisters-in-law, Nell Crofton and husband, John and Linda Wheless and husband, Kenneth; as well as their children and grandchildren.
