David Griswold Obituary

David Ellis Griswold entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, in Nacogdoches, Texas, at the age of 84. He was born on September 17, 1936, in Fairbanks, Texas, to Eugene and Marzee Griswold.

David grew up in Fairbanks, Texas. Before the surrounding cities grew, dairy farms flourished in Fairbanks and David would spend many of his childhood years working on those farms. Once David reached high school, he had moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, where he attended and graduated from Nacogdoches High School. It was here that David met the love of his life, Sue Nell Norris, who he would later marry on October 5, 1956.

After high school, David enlisted in the National Guard where he was tasked as a demolition expert, and later was Honorably Discharged. David was a hard worker his entire life and carried a letter of reference with him every where he went, that earnestly doted on his perseverance and abilities to work hard, never miss a day of work, and had an excellent attitude. He worked at the paper mill in Lufkin, Texas for 33 years.

When David was not working, he was coaching baseball for Central School, spending time with his family, or fishing and hunting. He coached baseball for 15 years and left a mark on all the students he coached, that hard work and perseverance were two qualities that would take you far in life. David loved to fish and would stay out late at night fishing with son, Jack. David was a beautiful poet, song writer, and guitarist. At one point in his life, he took to Nashville, Tennessee to try and publish his songs.

David was a loving man who set an example to all. When his beloved wife, Sue, fell ill, he stayed by her side, taking care of her, and loving her more and more every day until the end. Even with Sue gone, David continued to give his all to his family and his perseverance to his family was one that they will remember forever.

David is survived by his sons, William Griswold, Mark Griswold and Jack Griswold and wife Cynthia; grandchildren, Stacy Teer and husband, Michael, Miranda Allen and husband, Christopher, and Corey Allen; great-grandchildren, Danyale and Austin Stokes, Aleigha Hahn, Bradley Windsor, Aubree Allen, Britleigh James, and Kaleigh Windsor.

David is preceded in death by his wife, Sue Nell; parents, Eugene Griswold and Marzee Jeter; grandson, Aaron Allen; and numerous siblings and in-laws.
