Visitation for Chris Ward, 58, of Nacogdoches will be held from 5pm – 8pm on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Laird Funeral Home. Chris passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021 in Nacogdoches.
Chris was born on October 31, 1963 in Manila Arkansas, the son of R.L. and Ladrina Hill Ward. From an early age, Chris was taught how important family was. He was funny and always had a smile on his face. Chris’ sense of humor, although sometimes a bit abnormal, always brought people closer to him. He loved people and spent as much time as possible with his closest family and friends. “Doodle” as his closest people knew him, was the epitome of an old fashioned “family man”. He worked hard for an honest day’s pay and always gave his best to whatever he was doing. Most recently Chris worked for Massey Ferguson in Lufkin, only after dedicating himself to Fish & Still for 16 years. Both positions afforded Chris to make some of the best friends a fella could ask for. He was an exceptional mechanic and was the go-to man when someone was stumped on what to do next. There was not much about farm equipment or large engines that Chris did not know. His expert, trained input on things will be hard to replace.
When Chris was not working, he carried his knowledge on to his hobbies. Chris loved old cars and he and his buddies would hang out working on old cars or taking the occasional motorcycle trip. His favorite hobby was fishing and was thrilled each time he was on the water. Beyond all this, Chris could be found with his family. Chris loved Rita more than anything. When he was blessed with having two boys to call his own, he was overwhelmed with delight and spent many years coaching baseball and supporting them in whatever they were doing. Rita, Colton and James were his pride and joy and he gave them the best parts of himself. He always made sure they knew how important they were to him and although they did not enjoy it, they went along with the camping trips and fishing trips because they loved him so much.
Chris is survived by his wife and best friend, Rita Ward of Nacogdoches; sons, Colton Ward of Nacogdoches and James Brooks of Dallas. He is also survived by his brothers, Robbie Ward and Kevin Ward. Chris is preceded in death by his parents, R.L. and Ladrina Ward.
Fish and Still Equipment has graciously set up an account at Commercial Bank of Texas in Nacogdoches to help with future expenses for Chris’ family. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to the Christopher Ward Memorial Fund in Chris’ honor and memory.
