Bruce Lanham Obituary

On October 9, 2021, Bruce Alan Lanham slipped peacefully out of this life after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family. A memorial visitation will be held October 17th, 2021, from 2 - 4pm.

Bruce Lanham was born on November 13, 1961, to Leonard and Billie Lanham in Houston, Texas. He spent his younger years in the Houston and Pearland areas, before moving to Nacogdoches in 1985.

Bruce worked for Stephen F. Austin State University for nearly 36 years, retiring in March of 2020. For most of his long tenure there, he oversaw construction for the University as their Construction Manager at Risk. Bruce was proud of the work he did with the Physical Plant, frequently referring to his projects in conversation. He had a hand in so many projects at SFA it would be hard to recount, but he was particularly proud of the ECRC, the DeWitt School of Nursing, the STEM Center, the Student Center, the Rec Center, and The Lumberjack Landing. Bruce handled large, complicated builds just as he did with everything else in his life, with great attention to detail and care for the specifications of the job.

Bruce was also a proud member of the Nacogdoches Breakfast Lions Club. He enjoyed the camaraderie he found with a like-minded group of people who were always willing to serve.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 14 years, Becky, daughter Julia’ Grimm of West, Texas and her husband Jordan, daughter Beth Stewart of Nacogdoches, Texas and her husband Michael. Bruce is also survived by the two loves of his life, his grandbabies. Owen (Nacogdoches) and Lakynn (West) will miss their Big Daddy so, but Bruce’s family is committed to keeping his memory alive for the grands by speaking of him often.

Bruce is also survived by his mother, Billie Lanham, of Nacogdoches, Texas and his brother and sister-in-law Curtiss and Melba Lanham of Fulshear, Texas. Bruce was also blessed with several nephews, a niece, and many cousins.

Bruce’s family would like to thank Hospice of East Texas for their loving care in his final days, particularly Jessica and Bridget.

Bruce Lanham leaves a huge hole in this world. He was a big personality who loved with all he had, never met a stranger, and was one of the most loyal people to ever walk this earth.

In lieu of flowers and food, the family has requested that donations be made in Bruce’s honor to Nacogdoches Breakfast Lions at P.O. Box 631835, Nacogdoches, TX 75963. Alternatively, donations may also be made to the Memorial Hermann Transplant Center in honor of Bruce Lanham / Deb Rose at 6400 Fannin, Suite J1-400, Houston, Texas 77030, ATTN: Faizbano Rayani. Donations made to the transplant center will be used to help offset transportation and housing costs for out-of-town kidney transplant clinic patients.
