Billie Smith Obituary

Funeral service for Billie Jean Smith, 81, of Woden, will be held at 2pm on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Laird Funeral Home with Bro. Jeremiah Moss officiating.  Interment will follow at Simpson Campground Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at Laird Funeral Home.

Billie Jean Smith was born on March 6, 1943, the daughter of Charlie and Ima Jean Morton Jacobs and left her earthly home on Sunday, December 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.  She was raised in the Woden Community, where she remained during her lifetime.  During high school at Woden ISD, she and Glenn Coleman Smith courted and in June of 1960, they continued their “high school sweetheart” status into marriage.  Together, they survived raising their 3 sons, instilling in them the same values they were taught growing up.  Billie Jean and Glenn spent a short 30 years together, and upon his passing, she knew she had lost the best friend a lady could have.  Although she was a widow, her wonderfully devoted children became more of a focus for her and the grandchildren that she so dearly adored brought a special kind of light into her life.  She was known as Mama, Grandma and Gigi to those most important to her.  When she was not with her children and grandchildren, her time was well spent working in her yard, crocheting, quilting or making some sort of craft.  She was talented at many things and could pretty much make something from nothing.  However, her most beloved things were her rose bushes, and she was the envy of everyone in the family because of the beauty her roses possessed.  Billie Jean also loved old country music.  She would tell you the real country tunes were those coming from Elvis, who was one of her favorites.  Her love of family and devotion to Christ are only a couple of the things she will be remembered for and her legacy will carry on through those closest to her.

Billie Jean is survived by her sons,  Glenn Ray Smith & wife Sherry, Mark Scott Smith & wife Karen and Michael Shane Smith; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Glenn Coleman Smith; parents, Charlie and Ima Jean Jacobs and her brothers, Robbie Gayle Jacobs and Roger Dale “Bubba” Jacobs.

Serving as pallbearers will be Daniel Smith, Rusty Smith, Mark Smith Jr., Holden Smith, Trace Smith and Braxton Williamson.
