Oren Simpson or “Pap” as he was affectionately known to his family and close friends, was born April 28th ,1935 in Nacogdoches. Oren enlisted in the United States Naval Service where he served both active and reserve roles until 1963. After serving, he moved to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania to serve with the Pittsburgh Police Department for 28 years. He also met his future wife Kathleen Faas while working a routine call. Oren saw Kitty and her brother walking by and made sure to go over to introduce himself. Three years later Oren and Kitty married in September of 1979. They then decided to move back to Texas in 1996 after retirement.
Oren was an active and prideful member of both the Masons and the Shriners. Pap was elected to Masonic membership in 1986, in Pittsburgh PA, and served in Nacogdoches, until his passing. He believed strongly in their community service projects and prided himself on his fundraising abilities. He and his fellow Masonic brothers put many miles on the vans escorting children to and from doctor appointments throughout Texas and Louisiana. He was an avid gardener and was so happy that he and Kitty shared that together. Oren loved his dogs Sugar and Levi. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, live music, and most importantly- his Cadillac.
