Darel Gene Sanford

Graveside services for Daryl Gene Sanford will be held Saturday 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Chireno, Texas.

Gene was born November 12, 1936 in Jacksonville, Texas to Herman Floyd and Dora Baxter Sanford. Gene was the oldest of five children.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Clara Belle Sanford and son Farrell Gene Sanford, sister Alyce Mae Sanford, brothers Floyd Neal Sanford and Michael Glen Sanford.

Gene is survived by sisters Mary Jane Shahan and husband Calvin of Lancaster, TX, Carol Haston of Cedar Hill, TX, son Tommy L. Byrd and wife Robin of Spring, TX, daughter Debbie G. Byrd of Chireno, TX; grandchildren Ashley Hermann, Colin Byrd, Steven Byrd, Chris Byrd, Brittany Sanford Broadway and Myles Sanford Broadway; greatgrandchildren Sabrina, Claire, Nora, Lucy, McKenna, Mason, Reid and Elijah.

He was employed throughout his career operating heavy equipment in highway maintenance and construction by Sonny Lewis Construction, City of Nacogdoches, CCE Construction and Pinto Construction.

Gene was a resident of Nacogdoches County since 1966.  He loved reading western and science fiction books.  He also liked to watch western movies and basketball on TV.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to all who brought special treats to him throughout the last 4 years.
